Dernière étape en France
L’Orient, 14 avril 2008
The waters became darker as the boat felt smaller
Several days of work and Bonnie is finally ready. The 11th of April at 10:30 and she touched water. Last minute adjustments and we docked in the brown caramel waters of a small river leading to La Loire. On the morning of the 12th at high tide we finally left Cordemais behind us. As we progressed the waters became darker as the boat felt smaller. Looking ahead we realized that the weather would change rapidly due to the dark menacing clouds. The light was very dramatic and all of a sudden the wind picked up, the rain battered the hull and then, a burst of hail. As we left La Loire the waters took on a very dark blue tint and our little Bonnie became a spec on the ocean but remained our life line. We arrived just west of Belle Ile before sunset and anchored in a small sheltered sandy harbour for the night. The last leg to L’Orient took just 7 hours and was uneventful but a pleasant trip. Here we met our sister ship, Dauphinéa, and it’s crew. We were able to get to know each other over a delightful supper. This will be our last port of call in France before our departure in a few days time.
