Amitié
North Atlantic crossing by sail
Life has a way of offering us inconceivable opportunities. Photography has been a big part of my life since 1988. For me photography represents the passion, the excitement and the beauty of being in the moment. Being at the right place at exactly the right time is not always as easy as it sounds.
I have met some fabulous people in the Mingan islands during my photography workshops. One of these is Charles Kavanagh, conservationist, from Parks Canada. He is part of the last family to have lived on Île-aux-Perroquets and he is also very familiar with the ocean environment. He succeeded a round trip across of the north Atlantic with his two daughters, Charlène and Daphné, in 2003, an incredible voyage. He will be coordinating another crossing from Saint-Malo in 2008 with a team of 12 crewman using 3 sailboats. There was an empty place on one of the boats and he was looking for someone to fill that void. I happened to be at the right place at the right time and yes, I will be part of that crew. This 5 month journey will start around April 7th. During that period we will have the chance to visit Ireland, Scotland, the Féroé Islands, Iceland, Greenland, the northern Labrador coast and to finally weigh anchor at Havre-Saint-Pierre near the end of August.
This blog, created by my wife Lucie Granger, will give you a chance to tag along. The internet and the web, which were non existent 10 years ago, make this possible. I invite you to become part of this crew to share with us the special moments, which I hope, will be numerous.
